Backing up your server is one of the most important things you can do to protect your data. This guide will show you how to create, manage, and restore backups using the HostByte Game Panel.

Backups allow you to restore your server to a previous state if something goes wrong, such as file corruption, accidental changes, or plugin issues.

Step 1: Stop Your Server

Before creating a backup, you should always stop your server to prevent data corruption.

  • Go to your server dashboard
  • Click Stop
  • Wait until the server is fully offline

⚠️ Note: SFTP connections will be temporarily closed during the backup process to ensure data integrity.

Step 2: Navigate to Backups

To access the backup system:

  • Go to the left sidebar
  • Click Management
  • Select Backups

This will open the backup management page where you can create and manage backups.

Step 3: Create a Backup

To create a new backup:

  1. Click the Create button
  2. Enter a name for your backup (e.g., "Pre-Update Backup")
  3. Confirm the creation

The panel will now begin generating your backup. This may take a few minutes depending on your server size.

Step 4: Managing Your Backups

Once your backup is created, you will see it listed in the backup section.

You have several options available:

  • Deploy - Restore the backup to your server
  • Download - Download the backup to your computer
  • Lock - Prevent the backup from being deleted
  • Delete - Remove the backup if no longer needed

Step 5: Restoring a Backup

If you need to restore your server:

  1. Go to the Backups section
  2. Find the backup you want to restore
  3. Click Deploy
  4. Confirm the action

⚠️ Warning: Restoring a backup will overwrite your current server files.

⚠️ Common Backup Issues

Backup Fails to Create

  • Storage Limit - Ensure you have available backup space
  • Server Running - Stop the server before retrying
  • Large Files - Large servers may take longer to process

Backup Not Showing

  • Refresh Page - Reload the backups page
  • Wait - Backup creation may still be in progress

Restore Not Working

  • Check Server Status - Ensure server is stopped before restoring
  • Retry - Try deploying the backup again
