VEIN supports admin permissions through Steam64 IDs, allowing specific players to use advanced commands and manage the server. This guide explains how to add Super Admins using the HostByte Game Panel and how to manually add more via Game.ini.

Step 1 — Understanding Admin Roles

VEIN uses two admin levels — Admin and SuperAdmin. Each provides different levels of control on your server.

Admin vs SuperAdmin Permissions

Permission Admin SuperAdmin
Access basic commands (help, list, players) ✔️ ✔️
Kick and ban players ✔️ ✔️
Spawn items or vehicles ✔️
Change server settings (PvP, difficulty, time) ✔️
Restart or stop the server remotely ✔️
View detailed logs and debug info ✔️
Access all Admin/Developer commands ✔️

Note: Currently, VEIN primarily uses SuperAdminSteamIDs. The AdminSteamIDs setting exists for future expansion but is not active in early builds.

Step 2 — Adding the First Admin via Startup Parameters

The simplest way to add your primary admin (yourself) is through the Startup Parameters in the HostByte Game Panel.

  1. Open your HostByte Game Panel.
  2. Select your VEIN Server.
  3. Go to the Startup Parameters tab.
  4. Find the field labeled Admin SteamID64.
  5. Paste your Steam64 ID (example: 76561198000000000).
  6. Click Save and then Restart the server.

This automatically adds your ID to SuperAdminSteamIDs inside Game.ini.

Step 3 — Adding More Admins Manually

If you need multiple admins or want to add staff manually, you can edit the Game.ini file directly.

  1. Open your server in the HostByte Game Panel.
  2. Go to the File Manager and navigate to:
Vein/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/Game.ini
  1. Find or add the section:
[/Script/Vein.VeinGameSession]
SuperAdminSteamIDs=76561198000000000
SuperAdminSteamIDs=76561198111111111
AdminSteamIDs=76561198222222222
  1. Add one line per Steam64 ID.
  2. Save and Restart your server.

Tip: Make sure each ID is on its own line. Unreal Engine requires each SuperAdminSteamIDs= entry separately for the server to read correctly.

Step 4 — Finding Your Steam64 ID

  1. Visit https://steamid.io/.
  2. Paste your Steam profile URL.
  3. Copy the Steam64 ID shown (it starts with 7656).

Step 5 — Verifying Admin Access In-Game

  1. Join your VEIN server.
  2. Press ~ to open the console.
  3. Type a basic command such as:
help
  1. If you’re an admin, you’ll see additional admin-only commands appear in the list.

Troubleshooting:

  • Commands not working: Double-check the Steam64 ID or restart the server after saving changes.
  • Other players not recognized as admins: Ensure each SuperAdminSteamIDs= line is unique and formatted properly.
